During the Scottish Poppy Appeal and throughout the rest of the year, individuals and organisations volunteer to collect for Poppyscotland. Here are just two of their stories.

Verity is a Scottish Poppy Appeal collector:

“I like volunteering for Poppyscotland because it takes me out of my world for a few small hours. I am not Verity the sales rep, or girlfriend or working my way through the to-do list, I am just a poppy collector. There is not a typical person who donates, and that’s what I love. I’ve met people from all walks of life and Poppyscotland is wonderful at bringing them together with a mutual respect of our Armed Forces. Each volunteering session is the least I can do for those who gave and will give their lives for our freedom, which is why I return year after year.”

Did you know that by holding a Scottish Poppy Appeal collecting tin, up to 50 times more money can be raised than if the tin was left alone? One full tin could provide the adaptations to enable a disabled veteran to stay in their own home, or could fund our specialist advice helpline for a week.

A team from DWP took part in our Corporate Raid collection:

“DWP’s volunteering scheme encourages civil servants to engage in their community and help the most vulnerable. Staff can share skills, gain valuable experience, and benefit from improved confidence and a ‘feel-good’ factor. Despite the grey weather conditions, the response from the public was incredible. Their generosity was overwhelming and their unique banter certainly made the time fly by. As a team we felt privileged to be able to contribute towards helping people remember by selling poppies, and raising money for Poppyscotland, who do such worthwhile work.”

Our ‘Corporate Raids’ events offer companies the opportunity to get involved in the Appeal and raise money, while using the day as a team-building exercise, helping to engage with and contribute to their local communities.

We need you.

Please volunteer as a Poppy Appeal collector.

Our volunteers are the lifeblood of Poppyscotland. Their support collecting for the Scottish Poppy Appeal means we can make a life-changing difference to our Armed Forces community. But we need more volunteers. We need you.
