Aged 17, Richard joined the Black Watch because it offered him a career and the excitement of seeing the world. But his dreams soon turned into a nightmare after witnessing the brutal realities of conflict in Iraq. After receiving help and support from Poppyscotland, Richard got his life back on track.

“Poppyscotland gave me an opportunity and I took it with both hands”, explains Richard. “My whole world changed when I started working at Poppyscotland. I got married, got a house and had another child. They even helped me get my HGV licence, which will open up more jobs for me in the future.”
